Essaouira

Once called Mogador by European sailors and traders, this former Portuguese fishing village is a must see on any trip to Morocco.  White-washed walls and vibrant blue shutters,  wood workshops, art galleries and perhaps the best seafood in all of Morocco are enough to captivate any visitor to this medieval seaside town.

Your driver will transfer you from Marrakech to Essaouira, where you have the option to explore the city by yourself or take in the expert knowledge of a licensed local guide.  We recommend visiting the beautiful fishing port, the Medina, Moulay El-Hassan Square, the Grand Mosque and Siaghine Alley.

Cascades of Ouzoud & Natural Bridge of Imi n’Ifri – Full Day Tour

Today we make the 150km drive North East of Marrakech to the Middle Atlas Mountains Village of Tanaghmeilt, which is perched at the edge of Morocco’s stunning Ouzoud Falls.  The journey will take us approximately 3 hours  as we take in the scenery of olive groves and small mountain villages.

Before reaching the falls we will pass through the small walled town of Demnate and continue 5km down a narrow road to Imi n’Ifri which translates to ‘doors of the Abyss’ or ‘door to the cave’  in the local Berber language. Here we will see the ‘Natural Bridge’, an impressive arch that has been carved into the limestone rock as a result of water erosion and the collapse of an underground cave system. We continue to the falls which are most dramatic March to June.

‘Ouzoud’ translates to ‘olive tree’ in the local Berber language, so it’s not surprising to see a blanket green Olive Trees surrounding the area.  The Oued Ouzoud drops 110m into the plush valley below in three-tiered waterfalls.  There are many restaurants & cafes for lunch with spectacular views over the falls. (Lunch at own expense).  After lunch, you can journey down the meandering pathways which lead to the basin below the cascades and view the colourful boats and rainbows which shine through the mist.   If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of one of the resident Barbary Apes.
